Suppose your website directs the user from one domain to another, from example.com to example.dk, you’d need to ask that user for consent twice. However, our system can track users' consent across multiple domains and subdomains, with shared consent turned on. This feature displays the consent popup only once when the user enters the first domain.
In this article, we’ll show you how to turn on shared consent.
Before you start
Here are a few things to know before you start:
To turn on shared consent for multiple domains, they all must be under the same consent solution.
Third-party cookies must be allowed in the user's browser. This shared consent won’t work if the browser doesn't allow setting third-party cookies or deleting them after a specific interval.
Some browsers block third-party cookies in incognito or private mode by default. Safari has strict privacy measures, including Intelligent Tracking Prevention (ITP), which limits the lifespan of third-party cookies or blocks them entirely. Our solution usually sets a single cookie in the user’s browser after consent. If shared consent is turned on, we place an additional cookie named CookieInformationConfig. It’s a third-party cookie set by our domain policy.app.cookieinformation.com that allows our script to track the consent across domains and subdomains.
