Cookie Information Tag in general

A Cookie Information tag facilitates seamless integration between Cookie Information and Piwik PRO.

This tag maps cookie categories from Cookie Information with consent types in Piwik PRO, thus enabling you to trigger tags based on consents collected through the Cookie Information consent pop-up. Moreover, it helps you to monitor and optimize your consent rates and it also enables the creation of consent-driven audiences within the Customer Data Platform.

If you would like to read more about the benefits of integrating Cookie Information with Piwik PRO see our blog post.

Initial setup

Before you start setting up the Cookie Information Tag, make sure to do the following.

  1. Adjust the following settings in Piwik PRO' s Platform:

    1. Turn on: Administration > Sites & apps > Privacy > Ask visitors for consent (on).

    2. Turn off: Administration > Sites & apps > Privacy > Ask visitors for consent > Consent settings > Ask for consent only in countries covered by GDPR and UK GDPR (off).

    3. Turn on: Administration > Sites & apps > Privacy > Ask visitors for consent > Consent settings > Use a custom consent form (on).

    4. Turn off: Menu > Tag Manager > Piwik PRO tag > Data collection > Recognize a visitor across subdomains (off).

  2. In Cookie Information’s Platform, check on the following:

    1. Turn off Shared consent:
If you have enabled Shared consent on the specific domain, navigate to the consent solution on which you want to disable the feature.
Go to the Settings tab and if the toggle is blue, press it. The toggle will become grey and the "Shared Consent" will be disabled for this consent solution.
Remember, that this action disables the Shared consent for domain(s) in this consent solution only.

    2. The default expiration of the consent solution in Cookie Information and Piwik PRO is 12 months, however, the expiration is customizable in both solutions.
If you have changed Piwik PRO’s consent duration, you would need to update the update the ppms_privacy_* cookie in our Platform accordingly.
To do that, you will need to create a new custom cookie. Doing this, the original scanning results will be overwritten and a new custom expiration will be shown to the user.
If the Cookie Information cookie expires before the Piwik PRO cookie, the consent will automatically synchronize.

    3. If no changes have been made to the expiration of the consent solution, Cookie Information’s consent pop-up will automatically include details about cookies used by Piwik PRO. The scanning results and cookie details first appear once the cookie scanner completes its task. This is normally done within some hours after the domain has been added to the Platform.
